A Word about Public and Private Revelation

Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, the people of God have been given a great opportunity to grow in faith through public and private revelation.   "Public revelation is defined as follows: God in His infinite goodness and wisdom, chose to reveal Himself to mankind; in accord with God's divine plan of salvation, Jesus Christ - true God who became also true man, the word of God incarnate - perfectly and fully revealed the Father to us in union with the Holy Spirit. "1. This public revelation has been given to every person for every age; it is preserved in both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, making up the deposit of the faith. Though the deposit of revelation does not change, it can continue continue to grow in ways that do not contradict itself or change its fundamental totality in any way. As the faithful, we can continue to be filled with a deeper understanding and love for Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. Throughout the Church's history, we have been blessed with numerous writings and devotions from the Doctors of the Church and the Saints. By spending time with these inspired works, we can continue to obtain a greater appreciation of our faith. Private revelation has always been part of the Church's history, numerous souls have shared and continue to share their personal experience of God speaking to them directly. In fact, it is more common than you think, most of us have experienced a form of private revelation in which God speaks to our hearts in a unique and very personal way. If the private revelation helps the soul grow in holiness, virtue, love of god and neighbor, and does not contradict Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, or the teachings of the Catholic Church's Magisterium, it is acceptable to be believed. We must fully understand that this type of revelation does not add to or amend the completed deposit of revelation found in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. However, It is a gift to the faithful to express belief in, and to participate in the devotions that stem from these private revelations given to various souls from Our Lord, Our Blessed Mother, the Angels and Saints. Numerous hearts have experienced true conversion because they have found the truth and efficacy of a particular devotion or message stemming from a private revelation. Just think about the Eucharistic miracles, the Most Holy Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Litanies, Novenas, other countless prayers, the gifts of using holy water and blessed salt, the wearing of the scapular, medals, and so many more. The efficacy and availability of the sacraments for the faithful's worthy reception are true treasures of our church. A word on Marian Apparitions: Through her Apparitions at Guadalupe, La Salette, Fatima, Lourdes, Akita, Knock, Miraculous Medal, Beauraing, Pontmain, Banneux, Champion, Laus, Leźajsk, Šiluva, Our Lady of Zion (Rome), Help of Christians (Czech Republic), Giertrzwald and  Kibeho, our Blessed Mother continues to call us back to her Son and help us to grow in holiness.    Just a few of the Saints who have received messages or visions from our Lord Jesus Christ. If the person (whether living or dead) has a reputation for sanctity (such as Padre Pio had) then clearly any mystical revelations have considerable credibility prior to any formal evaluation by the Church. The witness of prudent priests, especially the spiritual director of the person, is a key element in determining credibility." 2. "It must always be kept in mind that however credible and reasonable an alleged private revelation seems to be, God, Our Lady, the Angels and Saints would never ask us to separate ourselves from the faith and discipline of the church to follow it, as if it were a "new" gospel or necessary for our salvation."3.
