The Oil of St. Joseph has an amazing history. Brother Andre Bessette, now Saint Andre Bessette, was a member of the Congregation of the Holy Cross; he had an immense devotion and love for the head of the Holy Family, St. Joseph. He was a simple uneducated and frail man, but God used him in a big way. He was assigned as doorkeeper of Notre Dame college in Montreal. As a professed brother, it was his duty to meet and greet the visitors, and to help them with anything they needed. Drawing inspiration from a devotion he had known in his homeland in France, he took some oil that was burning in front of the statue of St. Joseph and encouraged his visitors to use it while seeking St. Joseph's intercession. Well as God would have it, many visitors began to experience physical healings after praying with Brother Andre. He would personally meet with the guests and ask them about their specific difficulty. He would then  instruct them to take the Oil of St. Joseph, rub it on the area of affliction, do a Novena to St. Joseph, and have faith. During his time at the Oratory, it was recorded that there were 500,000 miracles attributed to St. Andre's prayers and St. Joseph's intercession.  
 
It is with faith and through intercessory prayer that we may experience miracles and healings of body, mind, and spirit- if it is in the Lord's will.
